Background of the Study
Innovation plays a key role in improving business competitiveness, especially in sectors where differentiation and customer satisfaction are vital. In the food industry, innovation can manifest in product offerings, service delivery, technology integration, and marketing strategies. Food vendors in Taraba State, who provide a variety of local and traditional food, face stiff competition and must constantly innovate to meet the demands of a diverse customer base. This could involve adopting new cooking methods, enhancing customer service, or integrating technology to streamline operations (Tunde & Ibrahim, 2023).
Food vendors, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), face challenges in leveraging innovation due to limited resources, lack of technical expertise, and poor access to financing (Duru & Okafor, 2023). However, those who can innovate effectively tend to achieve higher profitability, attract more customers, and maintain a competitive advantage in the market. This study aims to evaluate the role of innovation in improving the competitiveness of food vendors in Taraba State, assessing how innovative strategies can contribute to business growth and long-term success.
Statement of the Problem
Many food vendors in Taraba State continue to operate in traditional ways, limiting their ability to stand out in a competitive market. Innovation is necessary to improve the quality of food offerings, enhance customer experience, and drive business growth. However, challenges such as resource constraints and lack of awareness of innovation practices hinder the adoption of innovative strategies by food vendors. This study seeks to evaluate how innovation affects the competitiveness of food vendors in Taraba State and identify barriers to innovation.
